The Eurovision 2023 music festival was a big party that took place in M&S Bank Arena Liverpool, but the fun reached far beyond that.

Working together with Adlib, Wirral Council, Stena Line, Merseytravel, United Utilities, and Carmet Tug Company we transformed the Birkenhead Ventilation Tower into an amazing light show - it was the Wirral's way of joining in on the Eurovision Song Contest fun.

Our job was to highlight the tower's fantastic architecture and make it feel like part of the main Eurovision event to include everyone. We used a special technique called photogrammetry to create a 3D model of the tower using drone photos, this was so we could coordinate and simulate the light show in our studio.

This project was truly massive. It took an enormous amount of planning, team effort, and creativity. We didn't just flick a switch and light up the tower. Every little detail, from the movement of the lights to the colours used, was carefully thought out and planned. We wanted to create a light show that would surprise and delight everyone who saw it.

Many groups and people had to work together. Lighting experts, city officials, site and building managers, port management and event crew all had to cooperate, and ultimately played an essential role in making this project successful.

Using a crane tug to lift a light onto the dolphin gangway at the Stena Line port was just one example of the coordination and teamwork involved. It was symbolic of the whole project- different people and groups working together to make an incredible idea a reality.

An estimated 175,000 people saw the light show over the entire Eurovision week from the Pier Head stage and the main event at M&S Bank Arena.
