Why We Need Trees

A image of a path with enchanting trees

Trees, often overlooked, play a vital role as the unsung heroes of our planet, offering numerous benefits crucial for our well-being and the environment's health.

“The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it”

-Robert Swan

In our fast-paced world, amidst towering skyscrapers and bustling city streets, it's easy to overlook the silent giants that stand tall around us – trees. Yet, these majestic beings are not merely part of the scenery; they are essential contributors to our planet's health and our own well-being. Let's delve into the significance of trees and how they play a crucial role in combating climate change.

Trees are nature's oxygen factories. Through the process of photosynthesis, they absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen, providing the very air we breathe. A single mature tree can produce enough oxygen for two people annually, highlighting their vital role in maintaining breathable air quality. Trees are hubs of biodiversity, providing habitats and sustenance for countless species of plants, animals, and microorganisms. Forests harbor approximately 80% of the world's terrestrial biodiversity, making them invaluable reservoirs of life and genetic diversity. Furthermore trees offer a multitude of ecosystem services that are essential for human well-being. They help regulate temperatures, mitigate the impacts of natural disasters such as floods and landslides, and purify water by filtering pollutants and replenishing aquifers. Access to green spaces and nature, including forests and urban parks with trees, has been linked to numerous physical and mental health benefits.

At Focal Studios we support the mission to promote tree conservation and green spaces, understanding it is a vital part of our survival. We have teamed up with The Mersey Forest for the Lunar New Year Celebrations 2024. Throughout the three-day event, they'll be offering a variety of activities ranging from health and wellbeing sessions to sustainable plant pot creation. Additionally, they'll be distributing over 1000 tree saplings to visitors over the weekend.

The Mersey Forest is a growing network of woodlands and green spaces across Cheshire and Merseyside, which has been creating 'woodlands on your doorstep' for over 25 years.

Through collaborative efforts and strategic partnerships, The Mersey Forest Partnership has facilitated the planting of over 9 million trees, symbolizing an addition of five new trees per individual residing within the Forest area. Recognized as a "visionary concept," their innovative 'more from trees' strategy yields a plethora of environmental, health, and economic advantages.

The Mersey Forest thrives as a community-driven endeavor. Without community involvement, it's simply a collection of trees!

Active community engagement, participation, and ownership form the cornerstone of The Mersey Forest's success. It's not merely created for people but with people, emphasizing the importance of collective participation.

The Mersey Forest collaborate with both public and private landowners and managers across rural and urban landscapes, offering guidance, encouragement, and assistance in planting and maintaining trees, woodlands, and related habitats on their properties as needed. As you can tell, we love what The Mersey Forest stand for and their contribution to fight global warming! Through our partnership and collaboration, we are committed to amplifying Mersey Forest's impact and engaging our community in tree planting and environmental initiatives within our local area.

Join us in celebrating the Lunar New Year and supporting The Mersey Forest's mission by attending our event on February 9th to 11th, remember to collect a free sapling and help us in making a positive impact on our environment.
